Job Title: Receptionist Part Time Evening & Weekends
Reports to: Reception Supervisor
Location: Hospital Reception
Job Purpose The Hospital Receptionist is responsible for the front desk area and is our Patient's first point of contact upon entering the Hospital. Essential functions of this position include greeting and assisting all visitors in person, by phone, using Ascom and through email, ensuring each visitor needs are responded to in a friendly and timely manner. The Receptionist also opens, franks and distributes post. The Receptionist must also be a master multi-tasker, as he/she is often answering multiple calls, inputting patient details, using Ascom and working with walk in visitors at the Hospital. The fundamental philosophy guiding this position is to promote and preserve the Bon Secours Mission, Values and Ethos.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure patients are arrived at Reception.
- Receptionist may occasionally assist in the admission of patients.
- Booking patients onto the pim's system, validate patient insurance , register the patient to wards , ordering of charts and collecting patients excesses.
- Ensure patients are directed to relevant waiting areas throughout the hospital
- Exhibit empathy and understanding with the stress and fear of the patient and to make them feel very welcome
- Answer the switchboard promptly in an efficient courteous manner, and deal with all queries competently and swiftly.
- Use the Ascom system as required.
- Have an understanding of general hospital activity and keep others informed of any relevant information
- Manage the emergency protocol procedures within the hospital - Emergency assistance cardiac alarms fire drill etc
- Book taxis for patients going to various hospitals for tests.
- Sorting, franking and distribution of post and packages for hospital and consultants clinic and accept registered letters and parcels for Pharmacy and other departments. It is important that urgent medical supplies etc., oncology packages which may need refrigeration are delivered promptly.

- Comply with Health & Safety Regulations, ensuring safe working practices and a safe working environment.
- Undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required from time to time
Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- Educated to a minimum of Leaving Cert level or equivalent
ExperienceEssential
- Excellent keyboard and typing skills (MS Office)
- Team working, flexibility and good organisational ability.
- Good knowledge of all aspects of how the Hospital functions

The appointment is: A part time, contract evening & weekends
Annual Salary: Clerical Officer Salary scale
Or (Commensurate with experience etc)
Annual Leave Entitlement: 24 Days per annum, pro rata
Probationary Period: The appointee shall hold office for a probationary period of six months.

Working Hours: The core working hours of attendance will be 25.75 hours per fortnight Monday to Saturday. Your flexibility on hours of attendance in response to service needs and managements requirements will be a key element of this role.
Location: You will be based in the Bon Secours Hospital, Glasnevin.
